Another first in my life

We have a lot of firsts in life, and most of us, whether it’s good or bad, have more than one “first” when it comes to the job front.  I’m actually behind the curve on this one. Today, I started my seventh job in my career since college. If I relied on statistical averages I should be nearing my tenth job, or something like that. Nonetheless, new jobs are hard, even if you’ve had some practice at it.

You try your best to be “on” so you don’t leave some sort of first impression that has people wondering what went wrong in the hiring process. While it’s difficult for me to judge my first day I’d like to believe that I had no major blunders. I didn’t spit while talking, throw up unexpectedly, exit the women’s restroom with toilet paper sticking to my shoe, expel gas in a crowded room or fall asleep at my desk. Although honestly, about four I could have put my head down and taken a little nappy. The fact that we took Payton to the Jonas Brothers last night and returned home around 11, falling asleep around midnight did not help my energy level.

I’m now sitting here with my daughter watching the Bachelorette. For some strange reason, she really likes it and I’m drawn to it in a weird way. I really don’t get why, maybe because it makes me feel better about finding the right guy without having national TV witness the whole thing from hot dogs to hot tubs.

Payton had one of the funniest lines tonight which reminded me why I sometimes enjoy these surreal shows. I was commenting that I thought Michael was too young (he’s 25) and she replied, “But mom, as long as they’re under 60, well maybe 59, they’re fine.”  I love the perspective of a seven-year-old, especially when I’m talking 25 being too young and she’s making sure I don’t count  out anyone who’s as old as 59. Now that’s my girl – giving everybody a chance!

Not sure what The Bachelorette has to do with a new job except it meshes quite nicely with the fact that my brain is sufficiently fried from my first day on the job, and watching and commenting on the Bachelorette is about as far as I can go until tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a new day, and I’m sure come morning I’ll be ready to flip the switch for day two. Three cheers for being fully employed again!
